The Sea Devil
They called it a devil. They never asked its name.
01Synopsis
Grayport fears the Sea Devil, a beast blamed for every torn net and vanished boat. But Sanna never believed the stories, not since the sea took her brother Joren.
On the anniversary of his disappearance, she rows past the forbidden Teeth rocks with her best friend Tomas and into a hidden grotto, where she comes face to face with Vesper: a vast, sorrowful leviathan with glowing crown ridges and ancient amber eyes. Vesper is no killer: it is a mourner, keeping the belongings of drowned sailors in a luminous memorial cavern, and it saved Joren's life.
As Sanna fights to protect her new friend, she uncovers the truth: wreck-looter Vane has spent years feeding the village's fear to cover his crimes. On a storm-lashed night, with harpoons raised and the grotto collapsing, Sanna must expose Vane before Grayport kills the gentlest creature the sea has ever known.
